Progress Update
almost 2 years ago – Wed, Jun 15, 2022 at 02:44:45 AM

Hello everyone, we hope you are well. We have a few things to share with you today.

Shipment update:

Just a quick update about our progress with shipping.

The UK orders have been dispatched, and most of you should have them by now. These were actioned a little earlier than estimated, as there was a change in schedule that allowed them to progress these.

The EU orders are going out now and should all be dispatched by the end of this week. The shipping notifications and tracking information for these have just started to be sent out. If you haven't received your shipping notification yet, please do not worry: the orders are secure and on the way, it just takes a while for all of them to be processed.

The US orders have been individually packed and are on the boat in transit now. They are on track to be delivered in July. The shipping notifications for these have not been sent yet.

The Rest Of The World orders have been split into two. The Australia material is due to be moved from China to Australia shortly, where the orders will then be packed and dispatched. The rest (any territory not covered by UK, EU, US and AU) are being packed now and should be dispatched soon. These are harder to estimate an exact date on, but we are aiming to have all delivered by the end of July. The shipping notifications for these have not been sent yet.

Certificates:

The Put the glasses on! pledge level included having your name in the game (on a location card) and a certificate signed by the Iconiq team. These certificates are ready! They will be dispatched separately from the game itself as they have had to be shipped across the world to ensure everyone had the opportunity to personally sign them.

Components list

We’ve had a few requests for a list of components inside the box.  We have put together a list below, or you can download a printable version here:  Components List

Interview:

Last week, Andrew and Luke from Iconiq Studios did an interview with The WeeGamers & The Bunker Club to discuss the creative process behind creating the They Live board game.

You can watch that interview here:

We need to lock all rest of the world shipping addresses by this Sunday, 5th June.

If you are from a location outside of the UK, EU and US , and you need to change your address, please send us a direct message by Sunday.

YOU PLAY, WE SLEEP (A reminder)
almost 2 years ago – Fri, May 20, 2022 at 03:42:55 AM

Hello everyone, we hope you are well.

The very first copies of the game are about to be delivered, and we wanted to do a quick update to remind you of a couple of setup bits to do before you delve into our expanded world of the iconic John Carpenter movie! We have covered these before in previous updates, including a video that we will link to at the bottom.

Protective film

Every card that has a hidden image (all Character Cards, Billboards, and most of the Resistance Cards) also has a protective film. This was designed to keep the cards safe during transit, and you are able to remove them before play.  Note: It is not essential to remove it, the hidden image mechanic still works fine with the protective layer on.

Sleeve the Resistance Cards

As we have covered previously, most of the Resistance Cards have a square at the top-right that contains the hidden image. To make them better to handle, easier to shuffle, and protect the hidden image square, we have included enough sleeves for each card in the Resistance Deck. We highly recommend taking some time to sleeve each one. The sleeves are a little snug (on purpose), so be sure to watch the video at the bottom if you need some advice on how to sleeve them.

Note: Not all the Resistance Cards contain a hidden image square. There are some that have no human or invader affiliation. We recommend sleeving these too, as it will keep the deck consistent and make it harder to identify where those cards are in the stack.

Prepare the overlay boards

Inside the box, you will find your overlay boards, a bag of wheels and a bag of rivets. Each board needs 6 wheels and 6 rivets (there are 2 parts to each rivet).

Place a wheel over the hole, then push the rivet through.

Turn the board over, and use the other side of the rivet (spiky side towards the card) to secure the wheel in place.

You need to do this for all 6 of the holes on each overlay board. Note: The wheels may be stiff at first as they wear in, but this is normal. In testing, we found that by the end of the first game they were all moving as they should be.

Glasses

There is nothing you need to do to set up the glasses, they are ready for use right out of the box! Please note: The glasses are intended for gameplay purposes only. If you look at your neighbor and they appear to be an Invader, do not engage!

Video unboxing

We have shared this video before, but we would like to do so again so that you can all see exactly what to expect when you open the box. It also shows some of the processes we have discussed above.

For those who receive their copies over the next few days, we hope you enjoy playing it as much as we enjoyed making it! For those who don’t, they will be with you very soon!

One last thing; when you get the game, please feel free to send pictures to [email protected] and we will share some of them across our social media channels.

Shipping Update
almost 2 years ago – Thu, May 12, 2022 at 01:32:52 AM

Hello everyone, we hope you are well.

We have another update about the shipping situation to share with you all today.

From all the team at Iconiq Studios, we would like to apologize for how long this has taken. We understand that you had expected to have your games by now, and being honest, so did we. We are as disappointed as you that this process has taken so long, and we will explain below some steps we have taken to help get this sorted and get your orders to you.

There are 2 things we want to highlight before we get into the detail:

1- The games are coming.

2- There will be an opportunity to change your address.

Shipment update:

Communication has always been important to us throughout the campaign, and with that in mind, we want to explain the current progress of our shipment, and why it is taking a little longer than planned.

We had been using a ‘standard’ fulfillment partner and while they are adept at what they do, the additional complications of a Kickstarter board game campaign and all its associated extras added a layer of complication that neither they, nor we, had previous experience dealing with.

We have, therefore, and admittedly late in the day, changed fulfillment partners for this project. We have now partnered with GameQuest to fulfill the orders. I’m sure many of you are already aware of who they are, but for those who aren’t: GameQuest is an experienced crowdfunding fulfillment company that specializes in delivering board game projects.

GameQuest has been very accommodating to this last-minute change and are working hard to ensure a smooth process for us. The good news is that, all going well, this shouldn’t create any further delays, but we wanted to let you know upfront.

Why the last-minute change?

This is our first Kickstarter project, and navigating through the complexities of global shipping (especially at the moment) has proven a challenge. The important part for us is that we want you to be wowed when you open that box and dive into our expanded world of They Live. GameQuest understands that. Their passion for board games, and experience in delivering projects just like ours, assured us that they were the best fit for this.

Where are we at?

The processes for North American shipping, UK/EU shipping, and the Rest of the World shipping has had to be different.

The UK/EU shipment is with GameQuest in the UK currently and is awaiting fulfillment. Fulfillment in shipping terms means the process of packaging each backer’s order based on the particular items they chose. With the large number of orders we have, this is expected to take a couple of weeks.

With North American orders, there was no early availability in which to fit our project for fulfillment as we have switched to GameQuest at the last minute. As such, fulfillment has been carried out in China prior to shipping. This means that each person's order has been picked, packed and labeled already. Once it arrives with GameQuest, it can be quickly shipped out to backers.

The Rest of the World orders are being fulfilled in China and will be shipped out directly from China also.

US orders packed and ready to go

In terms of timelines, what are we realistically looking at?

  • For the UK and EU orders, we expect your games to be with you in June
  • For North American orders, we expect your games to be with you in July.
  • For the Rest of the World orders, we expect your games to be with you in June.

Can I change my address?

We understand that, because this process has taken so long, some of you have had a change in address. One of the other benefits of partnering with GameQuest is that we will now have an opportunity to update addresses before the game ships. Exactly how this will work will be confirmed later. In the meantime, if you have changed your address recently, please direct message us with the old address and the new address.

We understand this delay is frustrating, and we can only apologize for this. This last-minute change of fulfillment partner will help sort many of the issues we were facing, and ensure that the orders get to you safely and without even further delay. We have learned a lot throughout this process; from Kickstarter, to production, to delivery. We appreciate all your patience, and we can’t thank you enough for sticking with us.

The end is in sight, and soon, the invaders will be too!
